Gelie takes to the airwaves with networking tips

Gelie Akhenblit is a networking maven and believe me, you want to hitch YOUR wagon to her star. She is the owner of NetworkingPhoenix.com which is in its eighth month of full-out growth and boasts 4,000 members. Every month, an additional 400 to 700 people join and start to “work the room” at Gelie’s massive networking events.

If you are looking for a networking event or hosting one, you will do well to use Gelie’s site (unless you have a problem with FREE, in which case she doesn’t want you to be her friend or cohort anyway!).

New recycling center coming to west valley

Melissa Quillard and Jerry Hoss of Waste Management take us through the logic of recycling as a responsible choice and the simplicity of their single-stream recycling method. Seasoned recyclers (and those of us not used to recycling but willing to make the effort!) will appreciate the good info about the new plant coming to Surprise, Arizona.  According to a ”did you know?” on the their website, Waste Management has saved enough energy to power 116,000 homes for one year by recycling 232,000 tons of plastics. Makes one say “forever in a landfill — no more!” the next time one is about to toss a plastic water bottle in the trash.  Okay, it’s not “one” — it’s me!!  Props to Waste Management’s Lori Somers in Southern California for making this connection!

Matt Bunk reports on legislature

Matt Bunk, editor of the Arizona Capitol Times, takes us on a quick half-hour tour of goings on in the legislature. A lawsuit is potentially looming between the governor and the legislature (can we say budget, please?) and over 80 bills have suddenly broken through a logjam to see the light of day.
