The Boomer and The Babe Show for July 24, 2009

Posted on July 24, 2009. Filed under: Grandparenting, Legislative Watch | Tags: , , , , , , , |

Kathleen Lawrence, aka Grannie Gator-Head, recently swam her 50th mile while balancing a Gatorade bottle on her head. Why would a 65-year-old woman do such a thing? Because she can! She has combined two great gifts, her athletic body and her big heart, to bring awareness to pool safety and drowning prevention. She teaches kids of all ages about focus, concentration and self-esteem as she shares the Gatorade bottle balancing experience with them. Go to www.granniegatorhead.wordpress.com to keep up with Kathleen’s quest to finish100 miles and save lives along the way. She told us that we saved a life (or many lives) today by raising awareness for drowning prevention.  So did she! Go Grannie Gator-Head!

The last 60 minutes of our 90-minute show are spent with one of our favorites – Matt Bunk of the Arizona Capitol Times. We discuss the new look of the publication and website (awesome!) and fun stuff going on in the Arizona legislature.  Yes, it can be and IS fun stuff.

Dr. Andie on the ultimate gift to give a child – the power to relate

Posted on May 22, 2009. Filed under: Grandparenting |

Dr. Andrea Weiner, aka Dr. Andie, has written the seven-step system that parents can employ to help their children learn coping and success strategies. Emotionally successful children learn some great life lessons that sustain them forever: the value of loving yourself; the ability to put yourself in another person’s shoes and “know” what they are feeling in a given situation; the value of face-to-face interaction for relationships that work; and the absolute power that a positive attitude gives you.  Dr. Andie’s book, called “The Best Investment: Unlocking the Secrets of Social Success for Your Child,” is available through her website: www.power2relate.com and at Amazon.com.  Buy it, read it, and pass it on to your kids with kids.
